I once mentioned in ...
I once mentioned in a lecture that I recently looked at a picture of myself when I was thirty and said to myself, "I thought this was inadequate?" I watched the room fill up with knowing smiles from every woman who was past her youth. Who among us has not looked back on a period we thought was lacking, wishing we could go back to it now and experience the wonders we couldn't see at the time? The truth is that every stage of our lives is perfect, if we allow ourselves to really live in it. If we concentrate on the present, contributing and showing up for it as fully as we can, then any moment can have its blessings, and the future will unfold in the direction of ever greater good.

Everything that happens ...
Everything that happens has a cause: either it was caused by love and offers a chance to increase that love, or it was caused by fear, and spirit is present in the situation to lead us out of it. One way or another, as people say these days, "It's all good."

Sometimes I hear people say ...
Sometimes I hear people say, "I'm ready to change my thinking, but I'm afraid that others around me won't change theirs, so it won't do any good." Perhaps, but not for long. As soon as you change your mind, others will begin to change theirs, and those who do not will begin to fall away.

As long as you keep thinking ...
As long as you keep thinking in limited terms, disbelieving in the possibility of infinite possibility in your life, then you will never experience the miracles God has in store for you. You will deny His gifts, taking on the ego's servitude instead. In a world such as this, fear is often the path of least resistance. If you want a miracle, you have to consciously claim it. And for everyone out there who might say, "How dare you?" there are at least two more who will say, "Thank you for showing me how."

Yet whatever pain we might experience ...
Yet whatever pain we might experience at others' negative reactions to our spreading our wings, is nothing compared to the pain we cause ourselves by clipping them. At this time on the planet, no one can feel good about withholding their magnificence. Expressing your full potential is not just your right; it's your responsibility.

Sometimes we try ...
Sometimes we try to take the paintbrush out of God's hands, under the erroneous assumption we can paint a better picture then He can. The ego will try to get a relationship to fit into our idea of how it should be rather than allowing it to organically reveal itself. We have pictures and idealizations we try to foist on others, thinking, "It should feel like this," or "They should act like that." Yet at the deepest level, we are simply souls encountering other souls, and relationships should be places where we free each other, not imprison each other. When our consciousness is simply that of one child of God honoring another – regardless of how things look in the outer world – we exude a peace and acceptance that calls other people to their highest. When we're calm, people around us will be calmer; when we're kind, people around us will be kinder; when we're peaceful, people around us will be more peaceful. Once we find the love within ourselves, calling it forth in our relationships comes much more easily.

The founding of the United States was ...
The founding of the United States was a dramatic repudiation of the ancient regime -- a social structure that dominated all of Europe for centuries, placing power in the hands of monarchs and aristocracy, and relegating the masses to serfdom and servitude. A worldview so entrenched as to leave the common masses of humanity little hope of rising above the station in life into which they had been born was abolished forever by a group of young Americans who stood up to what was then the most powerful military force in the world and said, "No, We have a better idea." They were young and rebellious and -- like all revolutionaries -- in the eyes of some, quite out of their minds. Their audacity is part of our national heritage.

Politics, ideally, is a context ...
Politics, ideally, is a context for the care of the public good. The word politics comes from an ancient Greek root politeia, meaning not "of the government," but rather "gathering of citizens." The source of power in America is not the government; the source of power is us. And millions of us, citizens of the United States, have begun to see life in a less mechanistic, more enlightened way. The consciousness revolution has already transformed both mainstream medicine and business. Harvard Medical School has hosted symposiums on the role of spirituality and healing in medicine, and highly paid corporate consultants call on business executives to turn their workplaces into "sanctuaries for the soul." Government is the only major American institution that doesn’t yet seem to have heard that the world is unalterably changed.

Being caught in anger, judgment, and blame ...
Being caught in anger, judgment, and blame is disempowering; it throws us out of our center; it puts us at the effect of the lovelessness of someone else. To be there for a while is one thing; to stay there and try to justify it is wrong-minded and will not lead to peace. Spirituality challenges us to detach from the purely personal, emotional aspects of a situation – the ego’s need to be right – in order to uplift ourselves to higher ground. That doesn’t mean we don’t feel our pain, our anger, our despair. But there is a way to hold such feelings in a sacred rather than chaotic way, so they heal us rather than poison us.

For years, I thought I only had to heal myself ...
For years, I thought I only had to heal myself, and the world would take care of itself. Clearly we must work on healing our own neuroses in order to become effective healers. But then, having worked on our own issues a while, another question begs for an answer: how healed can we ultimately become while the social systems in which we live and move, and have our earthly being, remain sick?

Parents are the primary spiritual teachers ...
Parents are the primary spiritual teachers of our children. We hold them in our arms and whisper in their ears before the world has the chance to bruise their tender spirits. I think there is no greater gift we can give our children than the knowledge that there is a God, a supreme, all-loving, all-merciful Being, who is there for them every moment of their lives. And there is no greater gift that we can give to God than to teach our children well of His forgiveness and His love.

World conditions challenge us ...
World conditions challenge us to look beyond the status quo for responses to the pain of our times. We look to powers within as well as to powers without. A new, spiritually based social activism is beginning to assert itself. It stems not from hating what is wrong and trying to fight it, but from loving what could be and making he commitment to bring it forth. A nonviolent political dynamic is once again emerging, and it is a beacon of light at the dawn of the twenty-first century. Its goal, as in the works of Martin Luther King, Jr., is “the establishment of the beloved community.” Nothing less will heal our hearts and nothing less will heal the world.

I believe that the most urgent need of parents ...
I believe that the most urgent need of parents today is to instill in our children a moral vision: what does it mean to be a good person, an excellent neighbor, a compassionate heart? What does it mean to say that God exits, that He loves us and He cares for us? What does it mean to love and forgive each other? Parents and caregivers of children must play a primary role in returning our society to a healthy sense of the sacred. We must commit to feeding our society to a healthy sense of he sacred. We must commit to feeding our children’s souls in the same way we commit to feeding their bodies.

It is a task of our generation ...
It is a task of our generation to recreate the American politeia, to awaken from our culture of distraction and re-engage the process of democracy with soulfulness and hope. Yes, we see there are problems in the world. But we believe in a universal force that, when activated by the human heart, has the power to make all things right. Such is the divine authority of love: to renew the heart, renew the nations, and ultimately renew the world.

Prayer for New Beginnings
Dear God,
I feel that I have wasted my life, thrown away my resources, taken too much time to gather my strengths.
Now, dear God, I feel it is too late for me.
My age, my weaknesses, the lies and betrayals of time gone by, all make me seem a lesser talent.
And only You, dear God, know the love in my heart and how much I want to serve, how much I have to give.
I need a miracle, a new beginning, which only You can give me.
Please, dear God, I give my life to You.
Please bring together my talents.
Please increase my gifts and use them for Your purposes.
I surrender my future.
Make it unlike my past.
Thank You very much.
Amen.

That light ...
That light -- a kind of contemporary, secular star of Bethlehem -- indicates newness on the horizon and beckons us to follow it to the birth of something fantastic. The wonders of the external world are nothing as compared to what's happening inside us. This is not an end time but a new beginning. What is being born is a new kind of human, played out dramatically in each of our lives. Freed from the limitations of the ego, free to see and hear and touch the magic we've been missing all our lives, we're coming at last who we really are.

Work
Dear God,
As I go to work today, may Your spirit go with me.
May my work in the world be a vehicle for your love.
May it fulfill a divine mission.
May it shine and light up all darkened places.
Go with me, Lord.
Show me how to love and forgive each person, that I might carry Your light to all I meet.
This is a new day, may it not be darkened by yesterday’s unforgiveness.
Instead, dear Lord, may we begin anew with new strength, new creativity, new power, new love.
If I am the employer, make me kind and compassionate.
Show me the art of leadership.
If I am the employee, make me kind and compassionate.
Show me the art of service.
For we are all in Your service, Lord, and here to lead the earth out of darkness into light.
May our work do this, through Your power within us.
And so it is.
Amen.

Each of us is connected ...
Each of us is connected to a cosmic umbilical cord, receiving spiritual nourishment from God each moment. Yet in slavish dedication to the dictates of a fear-based ego, we resist the elixir of divine sustenance, preferring instead to drink the poison of the world. . deliverance comes at most in flashes. Fortunately, today there are more of those flashes than usual. While darkness seems to be all around us, an understanding of a deeper nature is emerging to light our way.

Prayer for Our Parents
Dear God,
Please bless my parents.
Thank You, thank them for the life they gave me.
For the ways they helped me and made me strong, I give thanks.
For the ways they stumbled and held me back, please help me to forgive them and receive Your compensation.
May their spirits be blessed, their roads forward made easy.
Please release them, and release me, from my childhood now gone by.
Release us also from any bitterness I still hold.
They paved the way, in all that they did, for where I have been has led me here.
I surrender my parents to the arms of God.
Thank you, dear ones, for your service to me.
Bless your souls.
May your spirits fly free.
May we enter into the relationship God wills for us.
Thank You, Lord, for I am free now.
Glory, hallelujah.
Amen.

The only way to spread one's influence wide is to learn to go deep. The world we want for ourselves and our children will not emerge from electronic speed but rather from a spiritual stillness that takes root in our souls Then, and only then, will we create a world that reflects the heart instead of shattering it. . .In what A course in Miracles calls a Holy Instant, we're delivered by love from the fear that grips the world.

The Mystical Reconnection
Dear God,
I take into the holy temple, the sacred shrine within my heart, my relationship to this person.
I speak here in Your presence, dear God, my honest feelings and perception of the other.
Our connection is the most holy place, for it is the oneness between brothers.
Where we walk in harmony, may our harmony increase and cast a light over all the world.
Where we are lost in confusion and do not understand, then please, dear Lord, help us remember the Truth.
I open my heart to this person now.
I speak from my fear and my hurt and my pain, to You, dear Lord, and to the soul of my brother.
Let me hear him also.
Let me not be hardened to the truth of any heart.
Let me understand as I have not understood,
And see what I have not seen,
that we might both be freed from this tear in the holy fabric.
Where the fabric is rent, please enter me and reweave it.
Thank You, Lord.
In the silence and the sanctity of the time I spend with You, may my heart and inner eye be opened.
Amen.

Prayer to Attract Great Love
Dear God,
I feel an empty space within me, a place where I would so love to love.
I know that if my beloved came here, I would adore and cherish, honor and serve him.
Please give me the opportunity to expand my heart into the life of another in the holiest way, the most beautiful way, the most intimate way, if that serves Your purpose.
For I would learn the secrets of love and use what I learn to grace the life of another.
What a marvelous possibility, Lord, that such a treasure would be placed in my hands.
Please do this.
I will try my best.
Amen.
